Description:
This little duo is delicate and finely sculpted, for which the Shelley Pottery is renowned. Made in England between 1925 and 1940, this cup and saucer is exquisite. The saucer, which measures 5 3/4" across, has fluted edges with a central impressed flower bordered by a shell design, and three sprays of delicate pink blossoms. It is bordered with an aquamarine edge. The cup is also fluted with shell design, has floral sprays on the front and back and a "bamboo" style handle. The rim and the handle are the same lovely acquamarine color. This set makes a cup and saucer into an art form. The mark is a green stamp: "Shelley" in a cartouche, with the words "fine bone china" and "England". The registration number is 272101 which means this design was registered in 1898. Hand painted red numbers are on the bottom of the cup "17479" as well as a "14", probably those of the painter. Condition is mint: no chips, cracks, crazing or imperfections whatsoever.
