Old Sheffield Silver Plate Swing Handle Cake Basket 19C
Description: Antique Old Sheffield Silver Plate Swing Handle Cake Basket, 19th C. England. The rectangular shaped bowl features fluted sides and a gadrooned rim with floral and leaf motifs. The top is fitted with a swing arm handle with similar floral/leaf pattern along the top and sides. The underside of the tray is inscribed: "209" and what appears to be "SB". There are no maker's marks. Dimensions: 9-1/4" High (handle up), 12-3/8" Long, 9-7/8" Wide. Weight: 1.92lbs. (30.75oz.) Condition: The surface is tarnished with some polish residue in the crevices of the floral patterned rim. There is some scratching/wear to the surface of the bowl along with a few copper colored spots to the interior. There are a number of small casting holes and/or dents in the cast repousse floral pattern rim. One side of the handle and hinge along the rim appears to have been repaired. Otherwise, the piece is in fair condition.
