Seymour Rosenthal was born in the Bronx in 1921. He started drawing with crayons and pencils at the tender age of five and hasn't stopped at the age of 81. Rosenthal grew up during the Depression of the thirties and the rise of Fascism, He became aware of the injustices economically, politically and socially in his society and documented them by painting scenes of his childhood and growing up in the early 1900's. His themes encompass his jewish heritage capturing life in the Bronx, on Orchard Street (in lower Manhattan) and in Queens.

The second world war and the Holocaust left their mark on Rosenthal's psyche. In ho " Homage to Six Million", Rosenthal expressed a debt to humanity, urging the world to never to "forgive or forget!"

After Graduating from Morris High School he spent several years working in the garment center delivering textiles and drew sketches and drawings of his surroundings. He then went on to work as a lithographer in lower manhattan and joined the Local One-L Amalgamated Lithographers of America. Working as a lithographer brought Rosenthal great joy, but his happiest time was when he left his lithographing job and branched out on his own as a full-time artist working with pencils, oils and watercolors.

The New York Museum of Moderns Art houses forty of his lithographs in their permanent collection, as does the indianapolis Museum of of Art, Suffolk Museum at Stony Brook in Long Island, the Harry s. Truman Library in Missouri, and other important museums, temples and universities throughout the country.
