Description:
Senufo Bronze Masked Hunter Figure OLD African Fetish A Rare Senufo Bronze Masked Hunter Figure Altar Fetish Antique African Art - Tribal Sculpture - Mali, Burkina, Cote d'Ivoire Collected from the: Senufo peoples of Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa. Also cross-attributed to the neighboring Kulango peoples. Material: Bronze, old lost wax casting of copper/tin alloy Dimensions: 8.25” height, 2.75” width, 3.5” depth; weight is 2.0 pounds Condition: Exceptional. Held in a private Parisian collection, the condition of this exquisitely detailed casting remains unchanged from the time of its original 1950's field acquisition. Significant signs of age, anticipated minute flaws in nt to the early casting process; tool signatures, refined metal content, iconography and surface condition appear appropriate for the period. Virtually smooth (non-granular) surface condition was produced only from the utmost care of a highly skilled caster applying the first layer of slip to the wax mold in the initial steps of the technique. Feet were never present, either through intended application or incomplete casting process, judging from surface condition and patination of area. Gorgeous deep chocolate patina, displays burnished skin oil residue at outer arms, legs and antelope front with generous calcification and verdigris over remnants of sacrificial libations and liberal brassy highlights - a superior, museum quality specimen! Please to fully appreciate this remarkable old figure!
