Description:
Offering this nice very rare adjustable screw head holding screwdriver in very good condition. It is marked "S.J. COX FRANKLIN PA. PAT. 1562548" on the brass ferrule. The patent reflects a year date of 1925. The jaws to hold the screw in place are controlled by a 3 piece slide that moves in sequence with the slot bit. The mechanics of the screwdriver are all in good++ condition. The handle is black painted hardwood, with a brass ferrule, very solid, and about 95% like new. The screwdriver is 9.5" long overall, and the tip is about 1/4" wide. The screw jaws are in great shape, like the rest of the screwdriver. A very rare screwdriver, a type I see very few of these days, particularly in this nice condition. A good sturdy, well made tool! Although this is a less complex version than some other patented screw holding screwdrivers, the fact remains that few example are available today. Many of these screwdriver became nearly opsolete when Philips patent his screwdriver head design.
