Description:
This very large centerpiece bowl was made by the Schramberger Majolica Factory of Schramberg,Wurtternberg, Germany and is stamped with the SMF logo. There is a name on the top of the logo that I have been unable to decipher – possibly the pattern name. The SMF logo was used by Schrambereger beginning in 1918. The factory closed in 1989. Impressed into the pottery is 3102 and a symbol. Exact year of manufacture of this bowl is unknown, but probably before 1945. From 1945 until 1989 most pottery made in Germany was marked “West Germany” instead of just “Germany”. The walls of the bowl have four large and four smaller convex panels. Vertical aqua and orange painted stripes outline the smaller panels. The four larger panels extend to form the feet on which this bowl rests and each of these panels has the silhouette of either a boy’s or girl’s head in high relief. The bowl is off white in color and has a matte glaze on the exterior and semi-glossy glaze on the interior. This Schramberger SMF bowl is in wonderful condition with no nicks, chips, cracks or crazing – just a few glaze chips or glaze misses on the interior of the rim and a few pinpoint size glaze pops.
