Acquired from the estate of Alan and Mary Gruskin, founder and director of Midtown Galleries, NYC. Dimensions: Paper: 15 1/4 x 22 1/2in. Weight: 1oz. (Box G) Condition: There is slight darkening to the paper throughout. All four edges of the paper are slightly creased with a few very minor tears. Several small areas of tape residue along all four edges recto and verso from previous mounting. There are a few small areas of staining throughout the work, more significant to the underside of the painting. Otherwise, good condition overall. Artist's Biography: Saul Kovner (RUSSIAN/AMERICAN, 1904-1982). Russian-born Saul Kovner typically dropped his surname when signing prints. During the 1920s and 1930s, following his early training at the Pratt Institute and National Academy of Design, he maintained a studio near Central Park, taught art classes, and created paintings, prints, and drawings of the city streets and their denizens.Studied: National Academy of Design; Ivan Olinsky; Charles Hawthorne; William Auerbach-Levy.
