Description:
This is a lovely thing and I have been intrigued by it ever since I received it. It is a very smooth, almost polished satin glass that is a sea green on the bottom and then cranberry on the rest of the vase. The sea green does glow under blacklight inspection but it it a deeper and less yellow green than vaseline. The design is incised and then painted all over with 22 karat gold. The bottom of the vase is slightly indented in the center. The bottom glass is rough, has not been polished and looks slightly irridized. If anyone can educate me on this glass I would be really grateful and If I am underpriced and you have found a treasure then I will count it as a learning experience. This measures 5 3/4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter. The glass is 1/8" thick. There are no large chips or cracks that I can tell, but there is a diagonal scratch across the gold horizontal band on the bottom and a line that shows on the top (see photo) but feels more like a vertical dent than a crack. There is also a smaller than pencil point ding on the edge of the cut rim of glass near the vertical line that I have been talking about. Upon looking at the top, there is indication to see that the entire body of glass is the color of the bottom and that the cranberry is an added color, a stain or a flash. I must say also that when I ding the glass, the sound does not last, which in the glass world is a sign of a crack so the ligns I describe may well be cracks. I want to be careful in my enthusiasm for this piece to discribe it accurately.
