Description: Oil on paper signed in pencil lr border Spring Series #8/83 Chaney. By WPA artist Ruth Chaney this would date from mid 1940's into 1950's. Obviously a series of studies done in oil on paper for quick drying time. Possibly for class room or a showing of her work. Ruth Chaney b1908, NYC USA was a painter and printmaker. She is best known as a printmaker, both lithos & woodcuts, and WPA artist. Very well documented through her work and teachings with the depression era WPA group. Oil on paper is 19 x 24" and has pin holes to each corner more than likely from the painting process, also small tear left side. I actually have a wonderful lithograph by Ruth Chaney in my own personal collection.
