Description: THE EXTENDED DIESIS (DIESUSNIY CHIN) 19th century, Central Russia. Egg tempera, gold leaf, gesso on wood panel. Two splints insert on the top and bottom. Christ’s sits enthroned upon a large elaborate throne. His right hands bless, His left hands an open book of Gospels. To Christ’s right, is the Mother of God shown full length holding an unrolled scroll and to His left is St. John the Baptizer also holding an unrolled scroll. The head of Christ is flanked by three quarter images of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. The top center displays an image of God the Father a top Clouds. Prostrate at Christ’s feet are St. Nicholas and St. Sergey. The borders show full length images of St. Stefan and St. Ekaterina. 10 ¼” x 12 ¼ (26 x 31cm.)
