Description:
As one of the finest jewelry workshops in Russia, the
First Kievan Artel produced items for the Kievan branch of the
House of Fabergé and was located at the same address. This
elegant polished rose gold porte cigarette is decorated
with alternating reeded bands and fitted with a cabochon
sapphire thumbpiece. Although slightly smaller in size than the
average case, it is heavier in weight. A masterpiece of gold
workmanship, the case opens and closes silently, its hinge well
incorporated into the design.
By the First Kievan Artel, Kiev, circa 1908, stamped with the
maker’s mark in Cyrillic, and the kokosnik (Russian headdress)
for Kiev, 1908-17.
3 1/8 x 2 3/8 x 7/16 in. (7.9 x 6 x 1.1 cm.). Sold together with
a custom suede travel pouch from Italy.
For a similar gold case by Fabergé, see John Traina The
Fabergé Case. New York, 1998, p. 126, bottom right.
