Demantoid Garnet

Demantoid, a green garnet, derives from the Flemish word demant for its high diamond-like luster and dispersion. The gem was discovered in the Russian Urals during the reign of Alexander II (1855-1881). Unique to Russian demantoids are tiny radiating needle like inclusions within the gem material, called horsetails. Demantoid is prized for its rich, attractive green color and rarity.
