Description: Antique vase made in Teplitz by the RSTK Amphora company, last decade of the 19th century.

Measures 5 1/2 inches high.

Wide bulbous body with slender neck flaring out at the rim. Ground is an earthy tone with pink/red/orange and shades of blue glaze. The front has a handpainted portrait of an Art Nouveau woman 's head in profile - hair whiplashing about in typical Art Nouveau style. She is surrounded by a continuous frieze of flowers - small white blossoms, large anemones and frilly foliage. Dark cobalt blue glaze in contrast to the rich white enamelling and generous gold highlights and outlines. Gilding so thick that it takes the form of 'jewels' in many places. Beautiful, fine detail to flowers.

Marked underneath with impressed 12 and 430. A burnt-red factory mark is partly worn, but legible enough to be clearly identified as the first mark used by the RSTK factory between 1893 and 1903.

Very good condition. No chips/cracks/restoration. The identical vase can be seen in the book on Amphora by Richard L Scott (page 84): Model 1894-5, #476. Painting probably Nikolaus Kannhauser. Ivory porcelain. Celadon glaze. Woman's head with daisies and poppies. ....
