Description: This was the earliest issued Royal Doulton Kingsware design in 1902. The Watchman was the precursor of the policeman. He patrolled the streets of the city at night carrying a lantern and staff, and calling the state of the weather and the hour. The watchman was replaced by the 'Peeler' the forerunner of the modern policeman, in 1829.
