One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** Robert Smith Surtees (Creator of “Jorrocks”) 1803-1864. By Himself and E. D. Cuming. Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1924. 339p., red cloth with gilt lettering, colored frontispiece by Geo. Denholm Armour, (1864-1949); 5 b&w illustrations. An autobiography compiled from discovered rough drafts by the man himself. Boards have damp staining, spine has faded. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. Front and rear endpapers with minor to moderate water damage. Frontis has some rippling from dampness. On the whole, the interior pages are lightly toned and free of staining or other damage.
