Description:
The book is published by George Routledge and Sons Ltd., of London, 1944, and is the FIRST EDITION (stated). This is the true First Edition, the First British Edition. The American edition was published six months later.
About the Author: Professor Friedrich August von Hayek, (1899 –1992) was an Austrian-British economist and political philosopher known for his defence of classical liberalism or libertarianism, and free-market capitalism.
The contents include:
· The Abandoned Road
· The Great Utopia
· Individualism and Collectivism
· Democracy and Planning
· Economic Control & Totalitarianism
The book measures 8.75 inches x 5.75 inches.
The 184 pages are nice and neat (the blank front end paper has a crease) with a little light foxing near the covers/rims. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages. There is a previous owner’s 1944 gift inscription at the front and no other ink or pencil markings in the book.
The original black cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps, having been largely protected by the original dust-jacket, which has not been price-clipped. The dust-jacket has tears to the edges with minor chips/loss, is a little foxed/faded and has not been price-clipped (it cost 10 shillings 6d net at the time!) The gold on the spine is excellent.
