Description: Beautifully engraved SPECIMEN certificate from the Riverside Cement Company dated 1929. This historic document was printed by the Republic Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a factory. This item is over 74 years old.
Certificate Vignette History A Historical Look At Riverside Cement Incorporated in 1906 by Ira Judsen Coe as Southern California Cement Co. Name changed to Riverside Portland Cement Co. on Dec. 29, 1909. On Jun. 1, 1923 purchased Golden State Portland Cement Co. at Oro Grande near Victorville, CA. Changed name to Riverside Cement Co. on Apr. 10, 1928 Fastest growing company in Riverside County during the decade of the '40's Modern Era Became American Cement Corp. on Jan. 1, 1958 when merged with Peerless Cement of Detroit, MI. and Hercules Cement Co. of Philadelphia. In December of that year they purchased Phoenix Cement Co. and became the 5th largest producer of Portland Cement in the U.S. The company again changed its name to Amcord in 1973 . In 1979 The Company was purchased by Gifford-Hill Co. In 1987 Beazer Holding LTD purchased Gifford-Hill and all of the company's cement facilities. Beazer sold 50% of the company in 1991 to the Ssangyong Group of South Korea. Hanson Corp. bought out Beazer in Oct. 1991. In Feb. 1995, Ssangyong bought out Hanson to assume full control of Riverside Cement Company. In January 1998, Texas Industries (TXI) completed the purchase of Riverside Cement from Ssangyong.
