In addition to his amazingly beautiful abstract work, Richard R. Cornwell is renowned for his brilliant realist artwork. A third generation family painter, Cornwell was born on May 4, 1938 in Port Huron, Michigan and his interest in art began at a very early age, drawing inspiration from his upbringing near the water. His professional career in art began with a four-year apprenticeship in advertising design and private study in fine arts. For thirty years he was a recognized and celebrated illustrator for Freuhauf Corporation, General Motors, and Ford, while continuing to develop his talent and passion for painting.
Richard Cornwell’s distinguished work is included in corporate and private collections throughout the U.S. most notably in the Dossin Great Lakes Maritime Museum on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan, and the Port Huron Historical Museum, in Port Huron Michigan. He has been represented by numerous galleries, including Out of Hand Gallery in Saugatuck, Michigan and The Art Gallery in Westland, Michigan. He is also a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Treasure Coast Art Association, and the Hilton Head Art League. He currently lives and works in South Lyon producing modern masterpieces in his inimitable style.
