Phenomenal Retro Modern convertible necklace/brooch in 14K yellow gold set with diamonds and sapphires. The heavy mesh necklace has an invisible fitting that allows the matching brooch to be attached and worn with the necklace. Either piece can be worn independently, as well. The geometric piercing and the bold 3-dimensional quality of the brooch nicely complements the strong angular lines of the necklace. The diamonds and sapphires are of very nice quality, with bright color and fine clarity. The diamonds are set in platinum, as was the custom of the period. This piece has the wonderful chunky quality of Retro jewelry, but also manages an elegance that is very pleasing. The reverse is marked 14K.Origin: America, circa 1940.
