Description: A rare and fine Yuan dynasty Fahua Foliate Bowl, ca.1279-1368. Fahua is a unique style of decorating porcelain ware with raised outlines (cloisons) squeezed from a clay tube and filled with colors before firing. Fahua was first introduced during the Yuan dynasty and was later reproduced during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Much of the Qing fahua was exported to Europe. This fahua foliate bowl has 27 petals. The top rim is flattened and flares outward. There is etching along this flatten rim as well as the center of the bowl. The exterior is decorated with the fahua squeezed, raised cloisons a family of ducks swimming in a lotus pond. The outer bowls cloisons are filled with vitrous, uneven and runny shades of sky blue, rich green, brown and yellow. The inner bowl is completely filled with vitrous, streaky green glaze that pooled at the bottom/center thickly and appears blackish-green. The foot rim is medium to taller and is quite stout. Both the foot and inner-foot rim are unglazed exposing the gray-beige clay. Between the foot rim is recessed with a concave cone or nipple-shape which is undeniably Yuan styling. We feel confident that this fahua foliate bowl dates to the Yuan period. The condition consensus is excellent and without any damage or injury. A rare find for the connoisseur collector or collection!
