Description:
A fine and unusual Yuan dynasty Junyao Vase, ca.127901368. The vase is cocoon shaped with a broad mouth rim. The shape has a broad belly that tapers slightly toward the mouth rim and foot rim. Above the foot rim, the body has ridges upward about 1/3 of the height of the vase. The vase also has small nipple ears above the shoulder. The vase is glazes with a sky-blue runny glaze that stops above the foot rim. The underlying first glaze (brown) peaks brownish-black through at the high point of the ridges. The mouth rim is also brownish-black flushed. The glaze is stops is less thick above the foot rim than on belly area. The body is made of a fine beige earthenware. The foot is flat with a central patch of glaze. The overall condition is excellent, museum quality. b*/11
