Description: Pore Lil’ Mose was created by Richard F. Outcault, (1863-1928) the highly acclaimed cartoonist behind The Yellow Kid and Buster Brown. It featured the first black title character in comics. Pore Lil’ Mose began in December of 1900 in The New York Herald. Pore Lil Mose lived with his family in Cottonville Georgia, but the lure of the big city proved too great, and he moved to New York. There, the 7-year-old lived on his own, with his companions Billy Bear, Mouse Houn', Cat Pussy and Monkey. Pore Lil Mose writes a letter to his 'Deer Mammy" in Georgia each week where he describes all of his adventures in the big city. Outcault launched Buster Brown in May, 1902, and dropped Pore Lil’ Mose three months later. This is rare original 1902 New York Herald publication by Grand Union Tea Company of Brooklyn NY. Measures approx. 10"X14", Matted ready for a standard 14"X18" frame
