Description: Ancient Pre-Columbian Blackware Cylinder depicting the Mayan Old God, Huehueteotl. Most likely from Guatemala, dating to the Classic Period -- circa 400 to 550 A.D. Shows Huehueteotl in full relief emerging from side of the cup. Huehueteotl was the old god and fire god, here shown with deeply-wrinkled skin, jutting lower jaw from which emerges two canine teeth, then pierced ears. Just 3"H x 2-3/4"D, intact/in excellent condition, save one small/stable age-crack and small surface chip to reverse. Ex-private Arizona Collection. A remarkably rare vessel of a size for which we have never seen!
