Description:
A very fine quality and rare Ming dynasty JiaJing Period meiping, ca.1522-66. The bold meiping stands a tall 14" with a broad chest and waisted, yet strong neck. From the chest the meiping tapers strongly to a narrow waist with a short inverted foot. The body is intricate and lively decorated in Yuan-styled circumventing bands of geometric petals (on the shoulder and base) with auspicious symbols, a pair of Phoenix's flying through scrolling flowering vines and other repetitive geometric designs. The decoration is painted in wucai overglaze colors of red and green polychrome on top of bluish-white ground without underglaze blue outline. This is a much more difficult technique to apply with the proper control while maintaining the desired fluidity. The foot is not glazed, revealing a burnt-orange and beige clay. The condition consensus is excellent condition without any injury and repair. b8/6
