Description:
Rare CHRISTMAS paper collectible - large uncut scrap sheet of Red and Grey Devil. There are 92 images on this large 15-3/4" x 10-1/4" sheet, each 1-1/2" high. Marked VB, number 043, dated (4th edition) 1934. St. Nicholas Day (December 6th) was very popular Holiday in Europe. On this day small children were visited by trio of St. Nicholas, Devil and Angel. The Devil reminded them that they should listen their parents and behave well -otherwise he would take them with him. The Saint Nicholas would then reward the children usually with gingerbread cookies with the St. Nicholas, Devil or Angel scraps pasted on them. This vintage chromolithograph coated with gummastic based laquer survived its 70+ years of age in near MINT condition. Comparable, more common scraps list at $1-2 each. "Devils head" in this condition is very hard to find, full sheet is a RARITY!!! Please note that we are picturing only part of the sheet, because it is to large to fit in the scanner.
