Description:
I have never seen a boat model quite like this!! For sale is this very rare sailboat made from thousands of matchsticks. An exceptional piece of prison art, I have never ever seen a matchstick sculpture on this scale. Sailboat measures a very large 42 ½” l x 37 ½” h x 8 ¼” at its widest point. Measurements include the wood base it is on. Previously, my favorite piece of prison art was a small baby grand matchstick piano, which a prisoner had made for Liberace and is on view at the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas. Even though that is great, this is a phenomenal find!! A one-of-a-kind item, which must have taken the artist many years of work to construct. To make the geometric design, he had to burn the end of each matchstick and meticulously glue it in place. There is some wear, as the black nose has a crack in it (which could be easily repaired). I do not believe there was ever a back put on, as this is where the artist put his hand in to create the boat. I could be mistaken, but this is how I bought it. I was told the sailboat dates back to the 1930’s but I am not sure. Just an exceptional work of artistry! I like to believe the man was falsely imprisoned, but I do not have any background on him. As item is very rare and fragile, it must be professionally packaged and shipped with insurance. Visit us at Salt Point Restorations
