Fine Example of an Irish Killarney Ware Arbutus Wood Backgammon and Chess Board of medium size proportions, mid Nineteenth Century.The main chess area with a wide border of inlaid trailing shamrocks opening to reveal a traditional backgammon board.Condition: This item of offered in original untouched condition with no losses, a few very tiny shrinkage lines and light scratching, good surface patination.Closed dimensions: Height: 3.5" (9cm). Width: 20.5" (52cm). Depth: 10.5" (26.5cm). More Images can be viewed through our own website. KILLARNEY WARE: Small items of furniture and writing slopes etc were made in Killarney Ireland using this local wood known as Arbutus (from the Strawberry Tree) peculiar to this part of Kerry during the nineteenth century and later. This is a stunning example of a collectors piece in superb condition.
