THERE ARE 11 CONCHOS, BUCKLE, AND 5 ABALONE OR MOTHER OF PEARL RECTANGLE ACCESSORY PIECES. THE ABALONE IS GORGEOUS. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS THE INSIDE OF A HEART MISSING FROM A CONCHO. THE BELT IS QUITE HEAVY WITH THE LEATHER BEING OF SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT. THE METAL WEIGHT IS QUITE HEAVY. THE BELT BUCKLE IS SPECTACULAR WITH HAND MADE INLAID HORSESHOES. THE BELT IS A COMBINATION OF HEARTS AND HORSESHOES. 4 PHOTOGRAPHS DO NOT PROPERLY DESRIBE THIS FANTASTIC PIECE.
This one-of-a-kind, gorgeous belt is believed to be a "prison made" belt from the 1920's & 30's. The tell-tale characteristics are the mother of pearl inlay, the horseshoes, and the red & blue material (salvaged plastics from items like toothbrushes). The material is probably Monel, a nickel alloy.
These belts were made in the Texas Prison System mainly Huntsville and at McCalester,Oklahoma State Prison and more rarely at the Canyon City Prison in Colorado.
