Description: Rare Rococo laminated rosewood Victorian slipper chair made by John Henry Belter, NYC. The elegant open carved design features acorns, grapes, vines and a floral crest. The back of the chair is curved and solid - (notice the wonderful rosewood grain). The chair has an old worn - possibly original- red velvet fabric. The chair sits on the original brass castors. Similar chairs by Belter are pictured on pages 107 and 109 of "American Furniture of the 19th Century 1840-1880" by Eileen and Richard Dubrow and page 55 of "The Furniture of John Henry Belter and the Rococo Revival" by Marvin D Schwartz.
