Description:
Genuine antique jewels with the dragonfly motif are so coveted by collectors that they're very hard to come by now, as you know. Making this piece even more rare and desirable, it's by the legendary Belais Brothers -- makers of the finest white gold filigree in the early 20th century. In short, this is a real Deco Dream Ring of onyx, diamond and gold.
Stamped 14k BELAIS, it has an intricately worked basket setting, its sides formed by the exquisitely textured bodies and outspread wings of dragonflies. The mounting holds two fancy-cut tablets of highly polished black onyx arranged to look like one elongated stone and set with a small accent diamond framed in white gold.
Measuring 3/4" tall, 3/8" wide and 3/16" high, this is a large knuckle-covering ring that can't be overlooked and the condition of the filigree is wonderfully crisp. The only flaw, visible just on the underside, is an old repair where the two onyx stones join. I thought about having the onyx replaced, but the problem doesn't show at all when worn, besides which you might prefer to have more colorful stones installed. The real value of this ring of course resides in its masterful filigree.
Current size is about a US 6, easily altered since the back of the shank isn't ornamented.
