Description:
This rare teapot has a plain drum form. The hallmarked hinged cover is fitted with a turned painted wood and silver finial. The teapot is also fitted with a carved painted pear wood handle. To one side of the teapot is a bright cut engraved cartouche containing the family crests and mottos of the Scottish families of Inglis and Cadell. (Inglis: Crest: A star environed with clouds. Motto: 'In tenebris lucidior' - 'Brighter in darkness'. Cadell: Crest: A stag's head proper. Motto: 'Vigilantia non cadet' - 'By watching he shall not fail') Katherine Inglis married William Cadell in 1773. This teapot is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and apart from a few minor dings and surface scratches in keeping with its age, is in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and to the interior of the cover are all very clear. Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this item. Height to top of handle 13.5cm/5.3", Diameter 10.8cm/4.25", Weight 16 troy ounces/498g. Alternative images available on request.
