It has 21 chapters and all pages are intact with no markings or tears. It was written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle. It was copyrighted in 1925 by The P. F. Volland Co. It was published by M. A. Donohue Company. Johnny's daughter, Marcella was a sickly child and suffered from the effects of a powerful smallpox vaccine. Johnny told his daughter stories about the Raggedy Ann doll that she had found at her grandmother's house. The doll had no face and he painted the now famous face with the black eyes, red triangle nose and separated mouth on the old doll. After Marcella's death in 1915 Johnny immersed himself in the work of putting into written form the many stories he used to tell Marcella to keep her entertained. This was the start of the first Raggedy Ann stories in 1918. This and all of our books have a mylar covering to protect from any future skuffing or wear to the book.
