Description: A curious terracotta vessel of zoomorphic design, modeled as a bull or a cow, standing four square with an apprehensive look on its face, an opening to the back (to put liquid in) and a circular handle to the center, its open mouth acting as the spout.
Roman , Eastern Mediterranean, Circa 4th century AD.

Provinence: Ex- Australian Collection, purchased Bonhams, London, in the 1980's or early 90's.

Probably an oil vessel, although the simularity to a Victorian Stafordshire 'cow creamer' is uncanny!
