Description: Origin: China,

Age/Period: ca.1650-1850, Qing Dynasty;

Kiln: JingDeZeng,

Dimensions: 10.1cm tall, 12cm wide;

A fine Blue and White Incense Pot from the early to middle Qing dynasty, ca.1644-1800. The short and stout porcelain brush or incense pot was painted with a rich underglaze cobalt blue design of 2 opposing dragons, amid clouds, and flanking the eternal flaming pearl. There are also 2 parallel underglaze blue lines painted below the mouth rim. The blue underglaze is rich and very dark, very much like the cobalt blue glaze used during the late 17th to early 18th century, Kangxi's period, (ca.1644-1723). This incense pot may very well be Kangxi's period, but we conservatively are dating this piece between 1644-1800. The pot is glazed with a white glaze that has a blue blush. The entire pot is glazed with exception to the foot rim and inner foot ring revealing an orange-tan colored fine clay. The pot is in perfect condition. There are a number of air bubbles and dark specks visible on the inner pot. There is one spot on the exterior, below the leftmost dragon's rear foot where a small bit of granular kiln aggregate got stuck under the top clear glaze coat.

This piece was a museum de-acquisition and includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Mr. Ma XiGui, former director of The Beijing Capital Museum, Beijing, China. He is also a very famous appraiser of Chinese porcelain and has authored many reference books on Chinese Porcelain published in China and Taiwan.

Condition Consensus: Excellent Condition without any damage or repair.
