Description:
Emil Schmeckenbecher manufactured some of the finest quality clocks ever made in the Black Forest of Germany during the 1950's. Ordinarily, we don't stock clocks that were made less than 100 years ago. However, the exquisite quality of this 1986 clock (confirmed by the fact that the world famous New York jewelery store TIFFANY and COMPANY imported this clock from Schmeckenbecher's Black Forest factory for sale to their upscale customers) made it an easy decision for us to offer it to our customers as well. The eight-day 2-jeweled mechanism features a control lever on the dial that permits the owner to select the quarter-chime melodies. A brief history of quarter-chime melodies will accompany the clock. Because the names of the different melodies are worn on the selector, we can't verify which they are- EXCEPT FOR WESTMINSTER which is still legible. However, my wife thinks the others are the WHITTINGTON and ST MICHAELS. The movement includes a "balance-wheel" type escapement (as compared to a pendulum operated clock), which allows the user to place the clock on any surface without concern for it being level. Notice in one of our photographs that Schmeckenbecher's name is engraved on the damascened backplate of the movement. There is also a decorative brass strip across the base of the clock. Everything about this clock speaks of high quality and precise workmanship. Our price is quite modest due to a fortunate purchase from a person in New York.
