This Precious Moments Christmas Ornament, Baby's First Christmas, is marked on the bottom with the Bread mark / PMI / #4024080 / JCHC / Made in China.
Precious Moments, the trademark pastel-hued figurines with teardrop-shaped eyes, were created by Samuel Butcher of Missouri in 1978, with 21 figurines (Original 21). Sam Butcher was a preacher, and he based his creations on Christian values, naming each figurine based on either sayings from children, or deriving from their innocence. In 1974, a friend invited him to join forces and start the Jonathan & David inspirational greeting card business, utilizing the teardrop-eyed children Sam had been drawing for family and friends over the years. Sam called them Precious Moments because they carried messages of loving, caring and sharing to those he loved. This company was the first step toward the phenomenal success of Sam and his Precious Moments illustrations. In 1979, Enesco Corporation transformed the artwork into porcelain bisque figurines.
Beautifully detailed, the golden haired baby boy dressed in light blue with a darker blue circle pattern and a blue cap with white pom pom dated 2005 is holding a yellow box that is opened with a bird flying out. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites he measures 2 1/4 inches tall, 1 1/4 inches wide and 2 inches deep. An addition to any Precious Moments Christmas Ornament Collection.
