Description:
A rare antiquity indeed ,This Pre Columbian Matate & Mano ,is in really good condition .It is carved from a lava like hard stone material& although you cant see it in the pictures it has interesting yet fairly worn ,what I highly suspect are Aztec Symbols .What a great artifact. I have seen a few of these in Museums in the past , but have never seen one like this that has so much style & great form. A Matate is a purely functional utility item , it was made to grind Maize into meal hence the Mano “grinding stone” & the angle at which it makes the meal slide right onto the cloth or bowl that would be placed at the lower end .This Matate measures 17 .5” long x 13.5”w.The height at the highest point is 9.75” x 5” at the lowest point .The Mano is 9 5/8” long x 3” across .This piece weighs a ton !Please visit my entire website for more pre Columbian & American Indian Artifacts .
