Description:
Rev. John Kershaw who was born in 1766 in Stokesley, N.Yorkshire and trained to be a medical man and went as ship's surgeon to a whaler sailing out of Whitby until being converted to the Wesleyan Methodist cause in about 1788? He travelled all over the North of England to preach before settling in Stoke Newington, North London. He apparently married three times: to Alice Mead in 1793 in Wakefield; to Elizabeth Freeman in 1797 in Whitby; he also married a Mary Jones in 1810.
