Description:
Portrait painter. German-born but Dutch trained, he settled in England in 1676. Kneller was the greatest master of the English baroque portrait. As Court painter to four sovereigns, he dominated English art for more than thirty years. Martha Married George Booth 1626 and 16352 - 12th Nov 1719 son of Sir John BOOTH 1610 - 9th May 1678 of Cheshire. They had one daughter , Elizabeth Booth 1675-1768 who married George Tyndale The Hawtreys owned Chequers for some 200 years, selling it in the early 1700s, their main seat was at Ruislip, Lady Mary Bankes who defended Corfe Castle during the Civil War was the daughter of Ralph Hawtrey of Ruislip.
