Description:
Here's a scarce piece of Popeye memorabilia - Popeye Chalk made by the American Crayon Company of Sandusky, Ohio and New York. There are copyright dates of 1919,1929, 1933 and 1936. It looks to have all its chalk although at least one that I can see is broken. I have not opened the box. Colors are bright and crisp. There's the image of Popeye on the front and all of Popeye's friends on the back. There is edge wear, light soiling, scuffing, creases to the box. The top panel is torn as if someone wanted to get a piece of chalk!I just noticed that there is a repair to the box on the front - a piece of tape goes from the front by the "P" in Popeye and edge of the chalk to the back down past Olive Oyl. It's kind of hard to see and feel. I keep looking but am not really sure where it goes! Still, this is a rare piece of Popeye memorabilia and if you collect Popeye, this is quite nice. This is from a collection and is on consignment.
