Description: Oil on board 19" H X 24" W. Inscribed "Yank on Pretty Polly, J.A.Wheeler. In ornate swept gilt frame.Very good order. Pretty Polly was arguably the greatest race mare of all time, winning the 1000gns,the Oaks,St.Leger and the Coronation Cup twice, winning 22 of 24 starts. She was owned by Maj. Eustace Loder, and trained by Peter Gilpin at Newmarket. She was mostly ridden by "Yank" (Danny Maher.) the sensational American jockey seen in Maj. Loder's colours. Mr. H.J.Joel's colours are to be seen on one of the two horses in the background.
