Description: Beautifully engraved Certificate from the famous Pocahontas Consolidated Collieries Company issued in 1907 - 1912. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of Pocahontas saving the life of John Smith. This item is hand signed by the company's president and is over 88 years old. 1595 Pocahontas born 1607 English settlement made in Jamestown, Virginia. 1607 In December, Pocahontas favorite daughter of Chief Powhatan,saved Captain John Smith's life at Werawocomoo which, according to Smith, was located on the North side of the Pamaunkee River(now York River) twenty-five miles below where the "river is divided" (West Point) in Gloucester County. Chief Powhatan ruled over all that portion of Virginia now known as Tidewater Virginia. 1608 Dutch men built Chief Powhatan a house in Gloucester near Werawocomoco. The reconstructed chimney of that house stands in the Powhatan's Subdivision at Wicomoco. 1612 Pocccahontas was captured and held prisoner. 1613 Pocahontas married English settler John Rolfe at Jamestown on April 5. 1616 Pocahonats and John Rolfe went to England with their son, Thomas in June. 1616/17 Pocahontas died on March 21 in Gravesend, England.
