Description:
Charlotte Rhead was a well known English ceramics designer and a contemporary of Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper. She was an expert at tube-lining (slip trailing) a process that Moorcroft also used. This is one of her early pieces and the colors are softer, more subdued in color than her later Art Deco pieces. The plate is approx. 9 1/4 inches across and 9 1/2 inches from top to bottom. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The background reminds me of marbled paper. The back is signed Bursley Ware, Charlotte Rhead, England. There are other marks impressed. The back has the same marbled look as the background on the plate and the blue shows on a line around the base.
