Description:
My mother called this a sandwich plate because of the two open 'handles'. It is a lovely piece of Old Ivory from Selesia potteries in Germany. I think it's from the 1920's, but I'm not sure. It is marked OLD IVORY XXII on the back. The Selesia stamp is bluish-gray and there is an R and upside down 2 near the Old Ivory stamp. The holly and berries pattern is beautiful. I can just imagine how wonderful it would be to have a whole set of this pattern. There is a small amount of wear on the brown color above the 9 o'clock opening. The background for the berries and holly actually looks like ivory. There is a little wear on the gold dots surrounding the white center, but does not detract from the plate's beauty. When held to the light one can see two fine scratches which are not noticeable when the plate is on the table. This is a lovely addition to a collection of Old Ivory, and a great gift for Christmas.
