Description: In the original frame with a partial Pillsbury Orotone Print label on the verso. Arthur Clarence Pillsbury operated a studio in Yosemite between 1907 and 1927. Orotones were popularized by Edward S. Curtis in the early 20th century. Using a negative, an image is printed on a glass plate that has been covered with a gelatin silver emulsion. After the image has been developed, the back of the plate is painted gold.
