Description:
This is a very rare, American Victorian Pie Safe / Cupboard. It is made of Pine and has a rich, Deep Pine Patina. It is in very good condition. The Pie Safe is exceedingly old with intricate details. The Wooden Pegs and Nails which bind it, are square. The Dove Tail Joints which were used to create it indicate the quality of the craftsmanship of the cabinet maker who created it. They are large and apparent at the bottom and top of both sides of the piece. There is a right hand open Door at the center. It is covered with a mesh screen at the top and bottom. The Door has a Pine Latch that spins to open it. Opening the Door reveals a roomy interior with three Long Shelves flowing across the center. This ventilated Cupboard was created to store baked goods, keeping then safe from insects and other pests. The Pie Safe has Arching Plinth Feet at each side. This curved design is an indication that it was probably created in Ohio. The design has a Pennsylvania Dutch influence. It comes with it's original hardware. This includes the Pine Knob and Latch. This is a gorgeous piece of Americana. If you are a collector of period pieces, you will find this American Victorian Pine Pie Safe, irresistible. It will be a lovely addition to your kitchen.
