Description:
For Sale I have a lovely piece of Art Glass made by Phoenix/Consolidated Glass of Monaca, PA. This Shape is known as a "Pillow Shaped Vase" and it is simply called "Hummingbirds".This is one of the better designs by Phoenix/Consolidated Glass Company. The Vase has 4 distinct colors. The background color is White Satin. The other areas are all done in a raised relief colored decoration. The Leaves are colored in a Soft Jade Green, the Flowers are Salmon to Peach with the Hummingbirds done in a Lilac or soft purple. Most of their vases displayed only 2-3 colors but this one has 4. This Pattern is a real favorite amongst collectors as It Depicts a Hummingbird drinking the nectar of the nicotiana flower. They are surrounded by spike shaped leaves on all sides. There is a Hummingbird on both sides and even the side of the vase has wonderful raised relief Flowers and Leaves.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Top of the Vase displays a Polished Smooth edge. The Vase is unsigned and more than likely had a Paper or Foil label that simply fell off with time. This is a lovely Vase and I'm sure the Buyer will cherish this piece forever. The Vase was made Circa 1926-1936.
Consolidated Lamp & Glass Company was located in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Phoenix Glass Company is located in Monaca, Pennsylvania. Phoenix began production of art glass in 1932 when 45-50 molds from the Consolidated Glass Company were moved to Phoenix and used until early 1936. This occurred because Consolidated Glass Company had been forced to shut down because of the Great Depression. They were both influenced by Lalique Glass from France.
