Description: For Sale I have a lovely piece of Pottery made by the Peters and Reed Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is known as a Low or Mission Bowl and is done in the ever popular Matt Green Glaze.

The Low Bowl or Planter is an excellent example of Peters and Reed Matte Green Glaze. The Bowl has speckling throughout with it being heavier at the top and inside the piece. The underside of the Bowl graduates to a lighter Green similar to the Green that is on their Moss Aztec Line. There is speckling here as well although, it is lighter and smaller speckles. The speckling on this piece is very Similar to Marblehead's Speckled Matt Green Glaze.

The Bowl is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no chips, nicks, cracks or dings. There are a couple of very minute pin pops in the Glaze which occurred during the making. There is also one Glaze miss on the bottom foot collar but cannot be seen when displayed because the bowl rests on it. The piece is unsigned but you can see the Red Clay on the bottom of the piece where the stilts were. Peters and Reed were one of the few Ohio Potters that used Red Clay. Peters and Reed pieces were also substantially heavier than the other Potters of the Area. This and the Red Clay are a few of the ways of Identifying this Wonderfully made Mission Bowl.

Peters and Reed Pottery (1897-1919) was bought out in 1920 and the name was changed to Zane Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. They still produced some of the same styles as Peters and Reed. They changed from Red Clay to White Clay Products in 1926. This product display the Red Clay underneath, thus the provenance. This Vase would look great in any Mission, Arts and Crafts, Country or Shaker decor. The piece was made, Circa 1907-1919.
