Description: Superb handcrafted Pennsylvania Dutch quilt show entrant purchased at the Pennsylvania Folk Festival in 2001. This Queen/King sized work of art was never used, stored protectively, displayed only at the Festival and now placed on consignment with us. All quilts at the Festival are required to be hand quilted, American made and remain true to the Pennsylvania Dutch customs and traditions. Judging encourages uniqueness, originality, beauty, craftsmanship, material, and tradition.

Original design quilt was made in three layers, consisting of backing, middle layer for warmth, and a top for the decorative stitched layer. Quilt is cross stitched by hand, measuring 90x102 inches. There are literally thousands of stitches that went into this quilt and the crafter's floral and vine cross stitching is superb. It is a stunning piece of hand work which took over 900 hours to create.

The back side is pure white as well as the background on the top side. Its batting is 100% cotton. The maker of this quilt marked and quilted the top side first with her stitching being an average 9-11 psi. You can still see her quilter's marks done in blue which confirms this quilt was stored and never used. Once finished, the quilter topped the piece off with an amazing floral design in 1/4 inch cross-stitching. The center round floral and vine design is enormous and is complimented with an border of floral and vine in colors of blue, violet, pink and two shades of green with some stems done in black. The colors are pulled together beautifully. The edge binding and white on white applique pattern is all hand-stitched as well.

This is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind folk art quilt in unused pristine condition. The certificate, No. 4134, is very pretty itself being on a parchment type paper along with Pennsylvania Dutch decorative touches. It is protectively preserved in its own binder. This creatively unique heirloom quality work of art can be the proud focal point of your home and purchased at a greatly reduced price, more than half the purchase price paid at the Festival by the consignee.
