Description:
A good clean First British Edition copy of "Peggy, The Wayward Guggenheim", by Jacqueline Bograd Weld, published by The Bodley Head of London in 1986. Deliciously gossipy portrait of this immensely wealthy eccentric, widely regarded as an incurable nymphomaniac and labeled by the press as an "urge on wheels" in quest of an "orgasm a day". Inextricably involved with the major movements in 20th century art, in particular with DaDa, surrealism and later with American Expressionism, she was the first patron actively to promote the work of Jackson Pollock and by the end of her life in 1979, had built up one of the finest private collections of modern art then in existence. Contains a vast amount of background information on the artists whom she collected and promoted, as well as the milieu in which they worked, exhibited and performed. Hard covers, 493 pages, black and white plates, original dust jacket. Ref. PTWGJBW/D3. FREE DELIVERY WITHIN MAINLAND UK : FULLY INSURED WORLDWIDE SHIPPING VIA ROYAL MAIL AIR FREIGHT.
